It is a well-known fact that smoking causes heart and lung-related hospital admissions. In their attempt to reduce smoking and therefore, hospital admissions, a group at North Shore Medical Center in Salem, MA. did a study comparing the effects of trying to:
- quit smoking by hypnosis
- quit smoking by nicotine replacement therapy
Key takeaways:
- After 6 months, 50% of the smokers treated with hypnosis were non-smokers.
- And, 50% of the smokers treated with both hypnosis and nicotine replacement therapy were non-smokers after 6 months.
- Plus, only 16% of the group treated with only the nicotine replacement therapy were non-smokers after 6 months.
- They also found that patients admitted to the hospital with heart attacks, etc. are 3 times more likely to quit smoking. But, do your really want to wait that long?
Smoking patients who participated in one hypnotherapy session were more likely to be nonsmokers at 6 months compared with patients using nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) alone or patients who quit "cold turkey."
